Dunouy is a painter famous for his landscapes. He learns painting with Briard and exhibits for the first time at “ The Youth Salon ” in 1781. From 1791 to 1833, his studies and his landscapes are presented at The Salon . He works for the palaces of Trianon, Compiègne and Saint-Cloud, sometimes collaborating with Demarne for the figures. Dunouy spend many years in Italy where he finds inspiration for most of his works.

Our painting is typical of Dunouy’s art as well as of neo-classical landscapes : the precision of its execution , its outlines, its well rendered perspective show his real talent. The painting is dated before Revolution, which is rare.

We are grateful to Mrs Corine Polycarpe Chorier for her help in writing the catalogue entry of this painting, which will be included in her forthcoming catalogue raisonné.
